Dear Friend,

July did not waste anytime showing up. Kids will be back in school before we know it.

Do you have a new or young driver in your family?  We have an excellent brochure "Be Car Care Aware" published by the Car Care Council.  The brochure is very educational with information about vehicle components and service intervals. Pick up the brochure next time you are in the shop.

Due to the increase in oil prices, an oil and filter change is $22.95 and the mini service is $32.95. If I may be of assistance to you please call.

People Keeping Cars Longer...
Honda Accord

People are keeping their cars and trucks longer as quality improves and the uncertain economy makes new purchases less appealing, according to a study released by automotive consulting firm R.L. Polk & Co.

Polk said the median age of cars on U.S. roads was 9.2 years in 2007. That ties the previous year's record high. In 2007, 41.3 percent of all cars were 11 years or older, compared with 40.9 percent the year before.

Purchases of new cars fell 3 percent in the U.S. in 2007 as a combination of factors, including high gas prices and the housing crisis, weighed on consumers and led many to put off buying new cars.

Dave Goebel, a consultant for Polk's aftermarket team, said increasing durability, not economy, is the main reason for the rise in vehicle age. There are more vehicles per household than in the past, he said, indicating that people buy cars and then hang on to them because they last longer.

"Each new model year the technology continues to get better and there are fewer components that fail, so we expect to see these trends continue," Goebel said.

Maintenance is Key to Longevity
Sick Car

If you want thousands of carefree miles out of your vehicle, it is important to keep it maintained.  Not only does maintenance cost less than repairs but a well maintained vehicle is more fuel efficient.

Hydrogen as Fuel
JeremyAs gas prices rise it is becoming more common to hear of alternative fuels, hybrid vehicles, and even full electric cars. But what about the rest of us who love our vehicles but want better gas mileage? You may have seen a few news reports on individuals who run their car on water. As far-fetched as this sounds it is based in real science. Some of us may remember high school chemistry when you pass an electric current between two or more stainless steel plates the water molecule is ripped into its hydrogen and oxygen gasses. The gas that is collecting above the water line is a mixture of the hydrogen and oxygen sometimes called HHO or brown's egas.

The more advanced water splitting devices use a pulse width modulator to produce monatomic hydrogen which is three times more volatile than diatomic hydrogen that is produced with straight voltage. The theory is to pipe this gas into the intake of your cars engine, which will cause a more powerful explosion that will also consume the fuel that normally goes wasted out your exhaust.

I am in the process of constructing and testing this theory in hopes to achieve an increase of 30% to 50% in city fuel economy. I hope to have more news by the next newsletter. Jeremy Bucy has been a technician at Alan Cox Automotive since 2003.
Thank you for your continued patronage.  If you have a vehicle for sale please let us know.  We have several people looking for good dependable vehicles.
